Obituary

Donald “Don” Eugene Matlack, 54, of Burrton, Kansas, passed away in his home on August 3rd, 2026. Don is one of the three beloved sons of Brian and Debra Matlack. He grew up in the countryside of Burrton, but attended school in Haven until he graduated with the class of 1990. Through his working years, Don had been an employee of Krause, Wifco, Collins, and Skyline Homes.

Don had a mischievous spirit, a knack for making people laugh, and was never short on opinions. He had his own way of doing things—and usually a story to go with it. Don found joy in the simple things and in the company of the people he loved. He enjoyed playing guitar, listening to old country music, a good game of poker, fishing, camping, and his passion for cars. He also had an artistic and creative side that showed in the way he tinkered, often spending hours taking things apart, figuring out how they worked, and finding a way to make them better. Don and his friends spent their younger years getting into their fair share of trouble, creating the kind of memories that were probably best told with a chuckle and a few details left out. He loved bullshitting with his friends, sharing stories, laughter, and having a good time - especially with a cold Natty Light in hand. Don took great pride in raising his beloved Mastiffs and enjoyed the companionship they brought to his life. Above all, he valued time spent with family and friends, making memories, telling stories, and living life in his own way.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Brian Matlack (2019) and his twin brother Daniel Matlack (1988). He is survived by his mother, Debra Matlack; brother, William “Wayne” Matlack & sister-in-law, Heather Matlack; niece, Kaylene Matlack; nephew, Troy Matlack (Destiny); dear friend, Buddy Reese (Mandy); and many other extended family members and friends.

Don’s time with his loved ones was cut short and he will be deeply missed, but he will be remembered by those he left a lasting impression on. A casual memorial service and celebration of life will begin at The Manor in Burrton, KS on Saturday, August 22 at 11:00 am with lunch to follow at Wayne’s Shop at 1:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate a life filled with love and friendship.
