Deborah Lynn Green was born February 10, 1965, in Wichita, Kansas. She was adopted at birth by Irving Bird, Sr. and Patricia M. Bird. Debbie attended Wichita Southeast High School, where she was a cheerleader, in addition to her other activities and was a 1983 graduate. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army. She was an army medic. After discharge from the Army, she earned her degree in criminal justice from Friends University, in Wichita, Kansas. She met and married Frank Lewis in 1985. From this union, she bore a son, Ryan Irving Lewis. She went to work for Sedgwick County Department of Corrections, starting as a Correctional Officer. She worked for COMCARE, and held a number of public safety titles during her twenty-four years with the organization. Her last position was as a probation officer, adult supervision. She touched many lives in her public safety career. It was during this time that she met Jeffrey Swindle. They married in 2015, and she became a second mother to his family. Debbie was taken from us very unexpectedly on October 15, 2017, at age 52. She is preceded in death by her father, Irving Bird, Sr., her brother, Irving Bird, Jr., her sister, Dorothy Jones.
