Dale M.
Holyoak
December 1, 2018
WICHITA, KANSAS
DALE MAXWELL HOLYOAK
Surrounded by his wife and children, Dale Maxwell Holyoak left his mortal state and returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 1, 2018.
To all who knew him, Dale was a man of honesty, integrity, with a strong work ethic and a long-lasting love for his family, his friends and his Savior. Simply put, he was a doer and a believer.
Dale was born on October 12, 1929, in Cedar City, Utah, as the only child to Thomas Vernon Holyoak and Ruth Clare Maxwell. His parents divorced just before he entered third grade. Yet, as he bounced from one relative's home to the next and one location to another, he rose above that thanks to a drive to succeed and to provide a solid and stable home life for his family which he never had.
Dale served an honorable full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the central part of the United States from 1950-1952. He married Illena Robinson on May 29, 1954 in St. George, Utah. Dale graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Geology from Utah State University in 1956. Dale and Illena raised four children—Kerry Dale Holyoak, Alan Robinson Holyoak (Kathrine), Mark Vernon Holyoak (Lori) and Amy Ann Jones (Randy).
He always told his children that they should seek a profession where they say, "You mean I get paid to do this?" And he did exactly that. Dale spent more than 35 years as a petroleum geologist. He retired in 1991 as the manager and vice president of exploration at Koch Industries. He also served faithfully in a wide variety of positions for his church over his entire life.
Dale is survived by his wife and four children, 13 grandchildren and seven (soon to be eight) great grandchildren.
He loved to serve others, work with his hands, till the earth and study its geologic structure. Fishing and hunting were other activities he enjoyed. Most of all, he loved and revered his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Humanitarian Fund .
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, December 8 at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 401 N. Westlink in Wichita, Kansas.
Dale will be interred in Parowan, Utah, at a later date.
