VALLEY CENTER, KANSAS


CURTIS DEAN WHITTED , 76, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He was born near Potwin in rural Butler County, Kansas to Fred Whitted and Lura Amanda (Albright) Whitted. On September 24, 1966 he married the love of his life, Betty, in Hastings, Nebraska. Curtis was a U.S. Navy and Vietnam War Veteran serving our country honorably 1961 to 1966. He then began working with his brother Marvin at Whitted Refrigeration until 1978. He began in 1968 for the U.S. Postal Service rural letter carrier making sure 'the mail got through' rain, snow or sunshine; he retired in 1995 after 30 years of service. He volunteered as a fireman for the Valley Center Volunteer Fire Department for twenty plus years, was a member of the Valley Center Jaycees and Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed his Valley Center community, but most of all he treasured the time with his family. Curtis is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty; children John (Michele) Whitted and Anne (Chris) Gehman; grandchildren Tyler Gehman, Ally Gehman, Jackson Whitted and Samantha Whitted; sister Velda Peterson; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Lura Whitted, brothers Marvin, Berton, Glenn, Dale, Roland and sister Mildred Kramer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in his name to the Volunteer Valley Center Fire Department. A Celebration of his Life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 18, at the Valley Center Christian Church, 1801 E. Fifth, Valley Center.
