Claude Junior Leckington, 93, of Valley Center, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He was born in Newton, Kansas on Saturday, May 7, 1932 to Claude F. Leckington and Mae Violet (Knott) Leckington. He was raised and attended schools in Newton, Kansas. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a Switchman and retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 44 years of his service. Yet his respect and love for the Steam Engines and Railroad was gained through his young eyes watching his dad have a deep love for working on them often taking his son to work to observe, appreciate and enjoy the life of the Steam Engine and Railroad. He earned the name of "Sparky" at an early age and if you ever have the opportunity to hear his story it is time well spent.
He married the love of his life, Neva Lynn (Bergen) Leckington. They lived in Valley Center where they raised their family and enjoyed being part of the community. She preceded him on Wednesday, August 18, 2010.
He is survived by his son, Garrett (Mary Jo) Leckington of Valley Center; granddaughter, Shelby (Mike) Luberts and great grandson Rayleigh of Kentucky; brother-in-law Wayne Bergen; numerous other relatives and friends.
