Obituary

Chris Cox, 61, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

Chris was born in Newton, Kansas, to Genene Bunch and Kay Cox. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed a simple, hands-on life. Whether it was welding farm equipment or tinkering with his many gadgets, Chris could often be found fixing, building, or improving something. He took pride in his work, especially during his years working for Purina Mills and with agricultural machinery.

He enjoyed his 4-wheelers and ranger, flying drones and kites, and using his RC cars and other gadgets. One of his greatest passions was racing his sprint car, a hobby that brought him excitement and joy for many years. He also loved the thrill of a trip to the casino and spending time in the fresh air. He liked being around his grandkids, watching them, joking with them, and just being part of their world. And when it came to holidays, he never missed a chance to light up the sky, he really loved the biggest, loudest fireworks he could find.

Chris will be remembered for his generous heart, his hands that could fix anything, and the love he had for his family and life's simple pleasures.

Chris is survived by his children, Kendra Weber (Mason Weber) of Sedgwick and Kayleb Cox of Hollister, MO, and his beloved grandchildren Skylar, Addisyn, and Stella Weber. He also leaves behind his sisters, Kelly Childers and Shana Cox Metzger; as well as his aunts and uncles Minnie Hollister, Linda Vassar, Gary Rainsbarger, and Dean Held.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Tessa Cox, his mother Genene Bunch, his father Kay Cox, grandparents Gail and Mabel Cox, Helen and Red Rainsbarger, his nephew Dustin Parker, and his aunt Coleen Held.

A memorial service will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 12th at Baker Funeral Home in Valley Center. Dinner will follow at the American Legion in Sedgwick.
