Obituary

Charlotte Clara (Jerke) Mayhew was born on September 26, 1930 in Delmont, South Dakota to Albert and Matilda "Tillie" (Peters) Jerke.  She was born and raised on a farm and went to country schools.  In the winter, her sister and her rode to school with neighbors in a horse drawn buggy.  Because her dad was a share crop farmer they moved often.  When she was about six they moved to Minnesota and then a year later moved back to South Dakota because of a poor farming year.  She lived on 3 different farms then moved to the Yankton, SD area.  In 1950 she married Wayne List (his family lived next to their farm) and moved away.  She had 4 children from that marriage: Janet, Daryl, Lenard and Sandra.

Charlotte was raised a Lutheran, she was baptized at infancy.  Her second marriage was to Homer Mayhew.  She was re-baptized in the Disciples of Christ Church where Homer attended in 1962.  She had 2 children from this marriage: Lynnetta and Teresa Mayhew.  She lived in Wichita, Kansas the rest of her life.

In 1992, she started attending the Three Angels Seventh Day Adventist church where she continued going until the COVID pandemic.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, and flower gardening.

She worked at NCR (National Cash Register) for 21 years.  After retirement she worked at Valley Floral Greenhouse from 1995 to 2004.  She moved to Park City, KS in 1976 and lived there until 2018.  She moved in with her daughter Teresa and son-in-law James in April of 2018.  In 2019, they moved to Bel Aire, KS and lived there until she passed on Saturday, February 20, 2021.

She is survived by her oldest sister Gladys Branesreither, sister-in-law Pearl Jerke, her children Janet Walker of Farmington, CA, Daryl (Tracy) List of Farmington, CA, Lenard (Susan) List of Stockton, CA, Sandra (Jeff) Rabanal, of Stockton, CA, Lynnetta (Ed) Hugenin of Colleville, WA and Teresa (James) Richards of Bel Aire, KS, along with 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Matilda "Tillie" Jerke and brother Carrol (Bud) Jerke.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 2 at the Calvary Chapel Fellowship, 190 S. Rock Rd, Wichita, Kansas. She will be laid to rest at Kechi Township Cemetery, 6523 N. Hillside, Wichita, Kansas.
