C. W. "CORKY" ARMSTRONG, 87, retired Boeing Aircraft Engineering Coordinator, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, in his home with loving family to help him on his journey. He was born on July 17, 1928, to Fred Douglas Armstrong and Ava Naomi (McKinney) Armstrong. He grew up and attended school in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from East High School and then Technical Automotive College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952 as an Enlisted 3 rd Class. During the Korean War he served upon the Navy Destroyer USS Cavalier APA 37, and was honorably discharged, after receiving the China Service Medal, Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. On May 3, 1953, he married Beverly Lehman, and they raised 2 daughters, Ande Armstrong and Carla Farrell. Corky loved Valley Center and was a member of the Valley Center Volunteer Fire and Police Departments for 20 years, helped drive Valley Center's first ambulance, and served on the Valley Center City Council. He was a member of the Demolay, Wichita Shrine, VFW, American Legion, and volunteered many hours driving children to the Shriners' Hospital in St. Louis. He was not only an awesome father to his daughters, but to their many friends and acquaintances. He and Bev's home was always open to everyone, and seemed to have a revolving door. Everyone was welcome and help was offered if needed. One of his many hobbies was working on his Vintage cars that he enjoyed traveling in on trips with the car club. He was also a Hamm Radio Operator. He has been a member of the United Methodist Church for 62 years. He is survived by his daughters Ande Armstrong and Carla (Denny) Farrell; grandchildren, Paris (Kendall) McGinn, Aubrie and Bailey Miller; great grandchildren, Lane and Caden McGinn, soon to arrive Rylie Renee Davis, Kennedy and Kyle Stamm; constant and loving companion Agnes Stamm; niece Sharon Hogan; sister-in-law Nancy Scriven; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ava, wife Beverly, sister Audrey Cain, brother Charles Armstrong and granddaughter Jackie Farrell. Visitation 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 14, and Service 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 15, both held at the First United Methodist Church, 560 N. Park, Valley Center. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, Corky requests donations go to Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue, 9025 N.
