Byron L. Smith, 62, "Jimmy the Cameraman" passed away in his home on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 while in the care of his family and Heartland Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence O. and Ruth E. (Wattenbarger) Smith. Survivors: wife, Rosie Brooks-Smith; daughters, Lisa R. Smith, and Ame Brubaker-Bourque; step-daughter, Alex Brooks-Schrauth; grandchildren, Allie M. and Cliff R. Brubaker, Karah M. and Juli R. Bourque, and Everett Brooks-Schroyer; brother, Marvin Smith; first wife, friend and mother of his children, Chrys L. (Daniels-Smith) Steffens; son-in-law, Daniel Bourque; and many more relatives and friends. As a retired art teacher for USD 259 (Northwest and Heights High Schools), Byron had a love for life with a passion for music, art, politics, education, motorcycles, and most of all his family. Per his wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name at the Wichita Center for the Arts, 9112 E. Central, Wichita, KS 67206.
