Brian Jae Fuglestad (Grizz) 72, passed away peacefully at home in Mount Hope, Kansas on Wednesday, December 13, 2025. He was born in Valley City, North Dakota to parents of Norma Jean (Ronde) Venhuizen and Thelford Raymond Fuglestad. He grew up farming in Hope and Hannaford, North Dakota. He graduated from Hannaford High School and then moved to Colorado to attend Denver Diesel and Automotive College. After graduation he worked as an auto mechanic. He then moved to Wichita, Kansas and was employed by Cessna Aircraft manufacture and maintenance company, built bikes for Walmart, and worked on anything anyone needed help fixing. He enjoyed tinkering with all types of equipment and creating various projects out of various materials. He loved to be out in nature and from a very young age, in addition to farming, he learned to trap, hunt, fish, garden, and live off the land. Skills and hobbies he continued throughout his lifetime. He was also known for his fine dancing skills and enjoyed “dancing the night away”. Grizz will be missed dearly.
Brian is survived by his children Stephanie (Robert) Johnston of Commerce City, CO, Darcy Fuglestad (Billy Silcott) of Henderson, CO, Ryan (Megan) Beran of Saint George, KS and Kimberly (Dustin) Frederick of Sedgwick, KS; grandchildren Sara Fuglestad, Dusti Sandoval, Jade Fuglestad, Blane Silcott, Gavin Silcott, Billy Silcott, MaCayli Beran, Bennett Beran, Ryder Beran, Braedyn Frederick, Daelyn Frederick, Jaxtyn Frederick; great grandchildren Sora Hoyt and Atreus Fernandez. Mother Norma Jean Venhuizen; brothers Terry (Linda) Fuglestad, Ervis Fuglestad, Todd (Sarah) Fuglestad, Paul (Anita) Fuglestad; sisters Annie (Curt) Hendrickson, Maria (Tim) Rauker; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Thelford Raymond Fuglestad, step mother Alice Fuglestad, granddaughter Aries Tia Rodlin, grandparents, aunt, and many uncles.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 4:00 pm at Cheney State Park outdoor pavilion (near O’Brien’s Marina), Cheney, KS. A live band will continue the celebration from 8 pm - 11 pm & Saturday, August 15 at 4:00 pm at Valley City Eagles #2192 345 12th Ave NE, Valley City, ND. Prior to this celebration of life, Brian’s ashes will be laid to rest at Westley Cemetery, 3rd St SE, Griggs County, North Dakota at 2:00 pm.
