Billy George McDaniel was born November 5, 1953 to George James and Ella Marie McDaniel (Hughes). Billy entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 30, 2024, age 70, at his home with his family and pets. Billy graduated from Salina Central High School in Salina, KS. Billy went on to Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS graduating in 1975 with an Agriculture Economics degree. While at K-State, Billy joined Beta Sigma Psi, a fraternity for Lutheran men. Billy met Mike Buxton and Paul Pitman who became his best friends and who he considered his brothers, since his only biological siblings were sisters.
Growing up Billy was active in 4-H and FFA. In 1966 Billy won the Salina Soapbox Derby Race. Billy also competed in the National Soapbox Derby Race in Ohio.
Billy met Joyce Archer through the singles group at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. They married in 1985 and to this union had a daughter Faith Ann.
Billy worked for Hay & Forage in Hesston, Case New Holland and recently retired from Express, a staffing agency where he worked at the Beechcraft plant in the warehouse.
Lions Club was an important part of Billy's life. He was a member of the Downtown Lions Club, a charter member of the Airport Lions Club and at the time of his death a member of the Valley Center Lions Club. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow, which helps for funds with disaster relief. A high-light for Billy was having his daughter Faith be a 5th year band student for the Kansas Lions band, then actually joining the Valley Center Lions club at the Kansas State Lions Convention held in Wichita KS in 2012.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents George McDaniel, E. Marie McDaniel, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Billy is survived by wife Joyce, daughter Faith and his three sisters: Karen (Jim) Murphy, Lee Summit, MO; Nancy (Terry) Trarbach, Salina, KS and Sally (Mike) Crane, Garnett, KS; nieces: Timarie (Andrew) Stomps, Kansas City, MO; Tierra (Caleb) Phillippi, De Soto, KS and Tionna (Matt) Wolford, Norfolk, VA; great nephews: Mason, Brooks & Cooper Phillippi; plus his many pets which gave him great joy.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, October 10 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 N Greenwich, Wichita, KS 67206. In lieu of flowers memorials have been designated to Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N Hillside St, Wichita, Ks 67219 and Fairmont Ministries, 3815 E 17th St N, Wichita, Ks 67208, located near Wichita State University.
