Obituary

VALLEY CENTER, KANSAS

BETTY JO (CARTER) KENNEDY, 77, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Valley Center, Kansas to Elzava and Mable (Fanning) Carter. She was raised in Valley Center and attended schools here with her ten siblings. She was a 1956 graduate of Valley Center High School. She married the love of her life, Robert Truman Kennedy, on January 18, 1957 in Valley Center and to this union were three children which in her words "are true blessings". Betty and Bob loved their family getting involved at church and in the community. Betty enjoyed working as a secretary for City of Wichita, then worked for Valley Center USD 262 School District Food Service for 27 years. She and husband, Bob, volunteered at the hospitals, Open Door food distributions, prison ministries, and many other ministries at their church. Betty loved ministering and working at Baker Funeral Home as a hostess for visitations. She loved bringing a smile to anyone she spoke with. You would find her whistling a tune or literally singing while she worked. Her love for her Savior and sharing about Him to others was foremost on her heart. Betty is survived by her children Susie Kennedy of Sedgwick, Sandra (Mark) Miller of Valley Center and Mark (Donna) Kennedy of Valley Center; grandchildren Emily (Jordan) Gonzalez of Wichita, Jacob Miller of Dodge City, Whitney Miller (fiancé Scott Hughes) of Valley Center, Luke Kennedy of Sedgwick, and Paige Jacob; sisters Beulah Rader of Haysville, Rogene Brown of Kingman, Mary Pruitt of Topeka and Karen Williams of Valley Center; brother Robert Carter of Augusta; sister-in-law Phyllis Severs of McPherson; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
