BESSIE ELLEN (SIMPSON) BLACK , 78, beloved mom, grandma, sister, aunt, friend and advocate, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 in Halstead, Kansas. She was born in Winona, Missouri to Tolly Loy Simpson and Ethel Bell (Bland) Simpson. She was a 1958 graduate of Bentley High School, Bentley, Kansas. She married the love of her life William Eugene Black on June 6, 1958 at Pleasant Valley Church, Bentley, Kansas. She loved playing the piano, gardening and caring for her flowers. She was a member of the United Machinist Union, advocate for water quality issues and environment, and her town of Bentley accomplishing so much. Her greatest desire was family time, loving a moment with her children and grandchildren.
Bessie is survived by her children Kelly Holle (Floyd), Allan Black and Kenneth Black (Audra); grandchildren Wade Holle, Floyd Holle Jr., Eldon Holle, Justin Holle, Kristen Giltner, Jena Black, Maggie Black, Kaleb Black, and Korbin Black; 9 great grandchildren; sisters June Kroger (Jerry), Dorothy Schmidt and Bonnie Simon (Charlie); many other relatives and friends. She was preceded by her husband Bill, parents Tolly and Ethel Simpson.
Services 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 12, at Bentley Senior Center, 504 E Sterling, Bentley, Kansas. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bentley, Kansas. Condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerfhvc.com
