BERNARD  "BERNIE"  MERLE  ATHERTON , 87, USD 259 teacher and research librarian at Vulcan Chemicals, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016. He was born in Maize, Kansas to George H. and Opal May (Wilson) Atherton. He is survived by his wife Joan; daughter, Sharon Atherton (John Snyder); sister, Dorothy Bigelow; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers William Atherton and Gerald Atherton. Celebration of Life to be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 13, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Wichita. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be designated in his memory to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8021 W. 21 ^st St. N., Wichita, KS 67205 or Episcopal Social Services, PO Box 670, Wichita, KS 67201.
