Arthur L.
Sanders
October 16, 1938 – August 26, 2025
Arthur Leon Sanders, son of Orville Gail Sanders and Lauretta Brunner Phillips, was born on October 16th, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas. Art was the 5th born out of 12 children. He passed away on August 26th, 2025 at the age of 86. Art was married to Marguerite Hood on July 1, 1967 on a very hot summer day, and they were happily married for 58 years. They had 3 sons together; Paul, Andrew and Sam. He had two granddaughters: Neva and Sophie, daughters of Paul and Heather Sanders. Art was very proud of his sons and granddaughters. He loved his family and nieces and nephews and spending time with them as well.
He ran around with all of his northwest Wichita buddies, neighbor kids. They explored the river and the stockyards. He remained friends with many his whole life.
Art loved to fly and was a skilled aircraft mechanic. He learned from his father and worked on single engine airplanes. His business for many years was working on and selling airplanes and all that went along with it. When Art was around 10 years old, his father had him take an airplane engine apart and then put it back together. It took him all day, but he did it correctly. He loved having his family involved in that part of his life and was passionate about airplanes. He learned a lot about airplanes as his father Orville got all of his kids involved in the family business at an early age. Art loved to pass on that knowledge and help to his family.
He was friends with Clay Lacy and they learned to fly together, from Art's dad Orville. Clay did some of the flying in the movie Top Gun, one of Art's favorite movies.
He had a great sense of humor and loved to spend time with friends and family. His smile was infectious and sometimes got him into trouble as it sometimes was misconstrued as he was getting into some mischief.
Art and Margie loved to study their genealogy and Art was proud to know he was a direct descendent of a signer of the declaration of Independence, John Hart.
He liked spicy foods and once got into a salsa competition with his buddies for who could eat the hottest salsa and he won. He loved ice cream, anything chocolate, and Pepsi.
He enjoyed talking on ham radios to people all over the world. He made friendships with some of them, one he spoke with often was in Australia.
He developed a love of photography while he was in the Army. He took a lot of pictures, developed the film, and those pictures became great memories for him of his time in Germany, Austria, Holland, Switzerland, and other places near his base in Hanau. He also loved music, classic rock of the 50s/60s/70s, and movies.
Most of all, Art loved his Wife Margie and his family. He always said family was the most important thing.
