Obituary

VALLEY CENTER, KANSAS
ALVIN RAY JEANNERET, 68, was a 38 year resident of rural Valley Center, Kansas, passed away on April 20, 2017 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, the oldest son of Ethel L. (Walker) and Richard L. Jeanneret. After graduating from Plattview High School, Papillion, Nebraska he joined the US Air Force. While stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, he met and married April Nuckolls. He was a weapons mechanic based in Thailand during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he returned to Omaha, Nebraska with his wife and son. Al and his family lived in the Omaha area until 1975. At that time he, his wife and 2 sons moved back to Kansas. Al worked as a small engine mechanic, first at White Star on more than 50 different rental construction pieces. After White Star he spent 10 years working on 2 cycle engines, lawn mowers, riding mowers, snow blowers, chain saws and portable generators. When his arm gave out from pulling starter ropes he was employed as a clerk and finally doing deliveries for a pharmacy. Al always played as hard as he worked. After years of friendly poker games, then bowling, he rediscovered pool. League pool and pool tournaments led to becoming a BCA Referee and certified instructor. As his age and health slowed him down, he loved teaching the basics to anyone who wanted to learn. Al lived with insulin dependent diabetes for 44 years. Long term diabetes brought end stage renal disease with peritonel dialysis for 6 years. The last 6 months of his life he overcame the challenge of a broken hip, walking and climbing stairs only to lose to blocked arteries to his right foot. That was amputated on April 6th. But then like the fragile house of cards that was Al's health, his body functions collapsed, and he lost the battle on April 20th. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael David Jeanneret, his father Richard Leroy Jeanneret, his mother Ethel Lavern (Walker) Jeanneret Yuchs and his step father Donald J. Yuchs. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 50 years, April Nuckolls Jeanneret, son Christopher Lee Jeanneret, two granddaughters Rae and Kaci and one grandson Ryan. He is also survived by his brother Carroll G. Jeanneret and sister Milly Faye. Private Family Services will be held. He will have inurnment at Resthaven Cemetery. Baker Funeral Home Valley Center has charge. Condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerfhvc.com.
