Following high school Aleta attended Wichita State University. She then had careers in the secretarial field for Farm & Ranch Insurance, WSU School of Engineering and then the office of the President. In 1974 and again in 1977 she took on her greatest role as mother to Matt & Sara. in the 1980's while her kids were young, she was a Mary Kay Consultant, worked for Green Earth Nursery & Landscaping, sold insurance for New York Life Insurance Company, and was the Executive Director of the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

Her love of sewing, quilting, acrylic painting and crafting led to opening her own alteration business. She ran This 'N' That Designs for 10 years in downtown Valley Center. In 2001 she began work for the Sedgwick County Extension Office teaching garment construction, youth sewing, quilting, knitting & crochet classes before retiring in 2012.
