U.S. Veteran

VALLEY CENTER, KS Alstatt, Charles Alfred, 83, retired Western Electric Co installer, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012. He was born in McPherson, Kansas to Eben J. and Elsie Alstatt. At the age of 5, the family moved to Hutchinson where he attended Winnans Elementary, Sherman Jr. High and Hutchinson High School, graduating with the Class of 1947. He delivered newspapers for the Hutchinson News Herald. In September, 1948 he joined the U.S. Army through 1952 and was a Korean War Veteran. In 1957 he met Sally Underwood, and they were married on November 30, 1957. He is survived by his sons, Jim (Susan) Alstatt of Coppel, TX, Mike (Sunny) Alstatt of Rockwall, TX and Jeff (Tina) Alstatt of Olathe; grandchildren Katie, Brady, Jordan, Joey, Allison, Jena and Kason; great grandchild Sophia; sister-in-laws, Jeanette Alstatt of Manhattan, Jacque Alstatt of Overland Park and Sue Stevens of Valley Center; brother-in-law, Bruce (Pam) Underwood of Springhill, TX; nephews, Randy Stevens, Brad Alstatt, David Alstatt, Eric Alstatt; nieces, Renee Shultz, Connie Grant Christie Sodowsky, Cathie Poe, Dori Allen, Linda Wahl and Karen; many other friends and family. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife Sally Ann Alstatt; son, Rick Allen Alstatt; parents, Eben and Elsie Alstatt; brothers, Vincent Alstatt and John Alstatt; sister, Marie Cooper; brother-in-law, Lou Stevens; niece, Debbie Stevens and nephew, Ronnie Stevens. Visitation 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 4 at Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center. Service 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 5, at Christ Lutheran Church, Wichita. Burial following the service at Kechi Township Cemetery, 6523 N. Hillside, Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Christ Lutheran Church, 5356 N. Hillside, Wichita, Ks 67219.
